About Voice of Discovery Houston

Recovery Should Fit Your Life. Not the Other Way Around.

We are a Houston-based Intensive Outpatient Program specializing in addiction treatment and co-occurring mental health conditions — built around the reality that lasting change happens when clinical excellence meets genuine human connection.

Who We Are

Voice of Discovery Houston was built on a simple conviction: that recovery should fit your life, not the other way around. Founded in 2012 by Marvin McZeal, our team of licensed clinicians, counselors, and support specialists brings decades of combined experience to every client we serve.

We are not a revolving door. We are a community. A place where working professionals, parents, and driven people find structured support without dismantling the lives they have worked hard to build.

Our facility is located in Westwood, Houston, Texas — designed to feel like neither a hospital nor a corporate suite, but something in between: calm, private, and purposefully human. We maintain a low client-to-clinician ratio to ensure every person receives individualized attention throughout their time with us.

Our Mission

To provide compassionate, evidence-based intensive outpatient treatment that empowers adults to reclaim their health, restore their relationships, and rebuild their lives — without stepping away from the responsibilities that define them.

Our Treatment Philosophy

Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. We treat the whole person — not just the substance use or the diagnosis, but the underlying causes, the co-occurring conditions, the trauma history, and the social context that shape each individual’s experience. Clients at Voice of Discovery Houston are active participants in their own recovery — setting goals, building skills, and developing the self-awareness that sustains long-term change.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Identify and reshape the thought patterns that drive addictive behavior. Build practical skills for managing triggers and maintaining long-term change.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Develop emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness — especially valuable for clients managing co-occurring mood disorders.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Strengthen your own internal motivation for change. MI helps clients move from ambivalence to committed, self-directed action.

Trauma-Informed Care

Every treatment decision accounts for the role trauma may play in your experience. We create safety before we ask for vulnerability.

Psychiatric Support

Integrated psychiatric evaluation and medication management for clients with co-occurring mental health diagnoses — on-site, not referred out.

Case Management

Practical support for housing, employment, legal matters, and community resources — because recovery doesn't happen in a vacuum.

The Evening & Professional Track

Recovery on Your Terms

One of the most common barriers to seeking treatment is the fear of disrupting a career, a family routine, or a financial foundation that took years to build. We built our Evening and Professional Track specifically to remove that barrier.

Our evening programming is structured to meet the demands of working professionals, parents, students, and anyone whose obligations don’t pause for recovery. You can attend a full IOP schedule — group therapy, individual sessions, skills training — without taking leave from work or explaining an absence to an employer.

This track is not a lesser version of care. It is the same clinical rigor, the same multidisciplinary team, the same commitment to outcomes — designed for your reality.

No leave of absence required
Confidentiality protocols for professionals
Evening sessions after standard business hours
Scheduling flexibility for parents and caregivers
Same evidence-based curriculum as day track
Career-specific group therapy options
